This year's Annual Dinner features General von Steuben, Inspector General and Drillmaster of the Continental Army, as portrayed by a finely skilled actor from the American Historical Theatre.  Von Steuben, a Prussian-born professional soldier, was recruited by Benjamin Franklin and hired by George Washington.  Hear about his service in the Revolutionary War, his impressions of the American military as compared to European armies, and his time headquartered at Mount Gulian.

Enjoy cocktails on the riverside lawn, a four-course, historically themed dinner served in our 18th century Dutch barn, live and silent auctions.  $185 per person; proceeds support Mount Gulian's education programs.  Prepaid reservations by May 16.

Verplanck Family Reunion

Saturday July 12, 2025
11:00 am – 5:00 pm

In celebration of Mount Gulian's 50th Anniversary as a museum and historic site, the Board of Trustees and staff are looking forward to hosting a reunion of members of the Verplanck family.  The last reunion was 7 years ago.  Relatives came from all parts of the country and were able to meet each other, some for the first time, and learn about the family's rich history in our wonderful authentic setting.  Few other families can claim such a privilege!

We hope family members, including descendants of Gulian Verplanck, pictured on the left, will join us in July.

If you are a member of the family, please contact our office at 845-831-8172 or info@mountgulian.org for details.

Baron de Steuben: The Myth, the Man, and Why He Matters

Wednesday Evening, July 23, 2025
6:30 pm
Free Admission

Having served as General Von Steuben's headquarters in 1782 and 1783, Mount Gulian is especially pleased to host The LaGrange Historical Society's Rev 250 Speaker Series.

Dr. Paul Lockhart, author and professor of history at Wright State University, Dayton Ohio will bring to life one of the American Revolution's most colorful characters.

Richard Brookhiser, historian, writes "Lockhart clears up all the puzzles of Steuben's early life.  It's an archetypal American story: an immigrant, ambitious, blustering, insecure, who gives his talents and passion to his newfound home."

This event is funded in part by Dutchess County Rev War 250
